MOU with Mintal Comprehensive High School

Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao signed a Memorandum of Understanding with School Principal Raul Cabilogan of Mintal Comprehensive High School (MCHS)-Junior High School on August 22, 2023, for cooperation in Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) education. The MOU was sought by Principal Cabilogan in line with the MCHS's move for the DepEd's recognition of its STE program. The MOU will provide MCHS's students with opportunities for learning experiences in science and technology. The UPMin Executive Committee witnessed the signing ceremony and gave inputs for possible activities.

The UP Mindanao Foundation Inc. held a celebration and thanksgiving dinner for their scholars who recently graduated. Six UPMFI scholars graduated in the 25th Commencement Exercises on 18 July 2023, namely Erika Ocon (BS Agribusiness Economics [BSABE]), Alessa Keith Carbonnel (magna cum laude, BSABE), Mark James Saguimpa (magna cum laude, BSABE), Vannah Mae Rivera (BS Biology), Aliah Baito (magna cum laude, BA Communication & Media Arts), and Nixie Serna (mcl, BA English). Five of the graduates were present at the dinner on August 5, 2023, at the Reyes' residence. UPMFI Trustees at the dinner were Sebastian "Anggi" Angliongto, John Gaisano Jr., Anacleto "Quitoy" Guevarra, Corazon "Zony" Reyes, Dinah Tolentino-Fuentes, Charmaine Valentin, Marie Glenn Sorila, Celia Castillo, and UPMin's Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao. At the dinner, the graduates shared their plans, and the trustees prayed for the graduates' well-being.  The UPMFI supported 15 scholars in Academic Year 2022-2023 and are looking to expand this number. The UPMFI is exploring new ways by which donors can support more scholarship packages.

The appeals period is from August 7-18, 2023.

PPP's Call for Participants for KIST Park

The Public Private Partnership Center, a government agency, issued the Call for Participants: Preliminary Market Sounding Exercise for the proposed UPMin Knowledge, Innovation, Science & Technology (KIST) Park, as follows:  
     
The University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin), with support from the PPP Center, intends to implement the UP Mindanao KIST Park Project (the “Project”), located in Mintal, Tugbok District, Davao City, through public-private-partnership (PPP). Aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, the Project is identified to contribute to putting up infrastructure facilities, in partnership with the private sector, to reduce the complexity and upfront costs and risks for private research and development (R&D).
As part of the initial stages of project development, the PPP Center and UPMin are conducting this preliminary market-sounding activity to solicit insights and feedback on the project terms from interested private sector partners. This activity will run from July 31-August 11, 2023, and will be facilitated through email correspondence of the questionnaires.
The objectives of the Preliminary Market Sounding Activity are as follows:
• To discuss the scope and details of the Project;
• To ascertain the level of interest of the private sector to undertake the same;
• To gather initial feedback from potential project sponsors, contractors/operators, and financiers; and
• To identify potential issues or problems that may affect the viability of these projects.

Prof. Emma Ruth V. Bayogan (Faculty, Department of Biological Science and Environmental Studies [DBSES]) and Ms. Susan P. Millado (Administrative Services, Cash Office) were honored in an online recognition ceremony for the university's retirees on June 19, 2023. The Human Resource Management Office organized the event in collaboration with the College of Science and Mathematics Office of the Dean, the DBSES, the Office of Research, and the Cash Office.  

Chancellor Lyre Murao led the administration in honoring and thanking the retirees for their dedicated service to the university. Prof. Aleyla de Cadiz rendered a song, and the pair of Clint Joey Inson and Schera Guillena performed a dance for the honorees. Vice Chancellor Novero gave the Closing Remarks. Asst. Prof. Cyrose Millado, a colleague of Prof. Bayogan and daughter-in-law of Ms. Millado, served as emcee.
