Regents and top officials of the University of the Philippines, led by President Angelo A. Jimenez, were impressed by the recent developments across the UP Mindanao campus during their visit on July 10, 2025.
The visit began at the Center for AI and Robotics (CAIR), specifically at the AI and Robotics FabLab, located within the Center for the Advancement of Research in Mindanao (CARIM) Building. Officials were impressed by the facility’s cutting-edge technologies and its role in advancing innovation in Mindanao. The FabLab is a collaborative initiative launched by UP Mindanao and the Department of Trade and Industry Region XI (DTI-XI) on June 30, 2025. The facility aims to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, students, researchers, and faculty by providing access to state-of-the-art 3D printers for fabrication and prototyping technologies.
During the visit, FabLab personnel showcased various product demonstrations. The officials were particularly impressed with the real-time fabrication of a customized wooden medallion, which was presented to President Jimenez as a token of appreciation, crafted on-site using the Lab’s Laser Cutter and Engraver Machine.

Following the Fablab tour, the regents and officials visited the Davao City-UP Sports Complex, where they were welcomed by faculty members and students of the Department of Human Kinetics (DHK). The group viewed the photo exhibit of the Sports Complex, from its beginnings in 1995 to subsequent highlights, including the Palarong Pambansa in 2019.
Chancellor Murao presented President Jimenez with the book, “Building Legacies: Unraveling the History and Impact of the Davao City-UP Sports Complex.” The tour also included a visit to the Football Field and Track Oval, located at the campus’ western periphery, followed by a walkthrough of the new Weights Room and Rehabilitation Clinic, and the Multi-Purpose Gym, which houses the DHK offices and hosts most sporting events.
To cap the tour, the officials drove by the Aquatics Center and viewed the proposed site of the Executive House, sparking further excitement among the officials and regents for the future developments on campus.
