In celebration of its 31st Foundation Anniversary, the University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin) gathered its academic and administrative community for the Gabi ng Parangal on 20 February 2026. The ceremony served as a meaningful culmination of the anniversary festivities—an evening dedicated to honoring the people whose commitment, integrity, and quiet perseverance continue to shape the University’s growth and public service mission.
University President Angelo Jimenez delivered the Opening Message, reminding the community that excellence, service, and honor are not abstract ideals but values lived daily— “In UP, we often speak of excellence, service, and honor. But nights like this remind us that these values are not abstract,” he said. “They live in offices opened early and lights turned off late. In classrooms prepared with care. In forms processed, facilities maintained, students guided, research supported, and communities served.” He emphasized that Parangal at Pagkilala is “not simply an awards night,” but a pause—a sincere moment for the University to say, “salamat kaayo.”

A solemn testimonial was likewise offered in memory of former Assistant Professor Erwin E. Protacio, honoring his enduring contributions and the legacy he leaves behind among colleagues and students.
The evening was further enlivened by musical performances and a community dance led by faculty members, fostering warmth, camaraderie, and shared pride.

In her Congratulatory Message, Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao reflected on the University’s humble beginnings and the pioneering spirit that sustained it through challenges. What once were “rough, dusty, unpredictable” roads, became symbols of resilience and conviction. The celebration, she noted, honors not only years of service but also the courage to begin, the resolve to continue, and the heart required to build an institution that will endure for generations.
“So tonight, when we celebrate our awarding, we are not just recognizing years of service or titles earned but honoring the courage to begin, the resilience to continue, and the heart it takes to sustain something for 31 years—and for a hundred, three hundred, or a thousand years more.”
As UP Mindanao marks its 31st year, Gabi ng Parangal stands as more than a celebration of milestones—it is a tribute to the people who make those milestones possible. In honoring their dedication, resilience, and service, the University affirms that its greatest strength has always been, and will continue to be, its community.
