Visiting Alumni Pledge Scholarships

By Rene Estremera, PRO

Visiting UP Diliman alumni pledged scholarships for UP Mindanao students on their first-time visit to the campus on January 21, 2026.

The 47-person alumni delegation comprised former pioneer student-residents of UP Diliman’s Kalayaan Residence Hall (KRH), a number of whom are retired from professional life, who reside in other parts of the Philippines and abroad.

The welcome party was composed of the UP Mindanao student affairs director, Assoc. Prof. Ligaya Leal, alumni coordinator, Asst. Prof. Samantha Arbotante, UP Mindanao Foundation Inc. (UPMFI) trustee Corazon “Zony” Reyes, and UPMFI student-scholars.

UPMFI trustee Reyes introduced UPMFI as a scholarship provider and explained how alumni could extend support for students.

The UPMFI student-scholars shared experiences and challenges of student life, which resonated with the alumni as being similar to their own.

Following Trustee Reyes’ pitch, batch president Ms. Susan David pledged support and endorsed their pledge to their scholarship committee head, Ms. Maria Socorro Atay.

Seen among the delegation were Dabawenyos Raymund “Woody” Quiroz (Ateneo HS), Maritess Angeles (PWC HS), and former UPMin official Cherrylyn Cabrera.
