Next-in-line personnel and heads of units listened, learned, and contributed their ideas for improved public service at “Linang: Mga Serye ng Pagsasanay Para Sa Pagpapaunlad ng Paglilingkod sa Pamantasan at Sa Bayan,” held at CARIM Building on November 26 and 27 and on December 3, 2025.
A UP Mindanao team of trainers delivered the Linang professional development program lectures and facilitated the workshops for the UPMin personnel. The UP Mindanao trainers were trained in the Linang 1.0 Training Run, held on October 6, 7, and 8, 2025, in UP Diliman, Quezon City.
The UPMin Linang was carried out in the presence of Linang lead, Assistant Vice President for Administration Tiffany Adelaine Tan, assisted by Ms. Maeven Enciso.
Day 1 dwelt on Linang ROSES or Relationship Operations and Sensitivity Enhancement Seminar, which used the concept of appreciative inquiry. The “Behind My Back” workshop exercise allowed participants to write one word on a sheet of paper attached to the back of a fellow participant. Next, individual participants did face-to-face encounters to deliver words of appreciation, gratitude, future plans, or apologies. These encounters were synthesized through the sharing of experiences, which elicited lively reactions. Finally, AVP for Administration and UP System HRDO director Richard S. Javier delivered a lecture on the Four Fields of Conversation, which introduced ways to see an individual’s emerging futures and past patterns through reflection and dialogue.
Day 2 dwelled on WAVES or Work Attitude and Value Enhancement Seminar. Ms. Marilou Montiflor led the participants in reviewing UP’s mandate, followed by Workshop #1: Self-awareness, reflecting on one’s reasons for being in UP.
Mr. Joel Sagadal led a discussion on perspective, personal perceptions, and values that shape attitudes and their influence on decision-making and behaviour. This was deepened through Workshop #2, on aligning or deepening one’s motives for being in UP.
Ms. Ruelyn Peronilla introduced ETHIC, an acronym for Emphatic, Trustworthy, Humble, Integrous (someone with integrity), and Committed. Workshop #3 focused on soliciting suggested observable actions touching on the themes of honor and excellence, which could be considered as policies. Mr. Sagadal led Workshop #4 characterized by a self-rating of work attitude and performance.
Day 3 focused on CSW or Completed Staff Work or “Kalidad ng Trabaho” as an “Effective Decision-Making and Management Tool.” Trainers on this day were Michelle Panis, Jo-An Garcia, and Carol Balgos. Project Development Associate Pepito Dizon, Vice-Chancellor for Administration Leo Manuel Estaña, and Allan Villanueva delivered lectures, facilitated discussions, and workshop exercises. The workshop groups presented their observations and proposed strategies or solutions.
In the closing ceremonies, participants and trainers received tokens and certificates. Certificates of appreciation were given to Resource Persons Pepito Dizon, Michael Gatela, Malou Montiflor, Ruelyn Peronilla, Leo Manuel Estaña, Jo-An Garcia, Carol Balgos, Allan Villanueva, Michelle Panis. Certificates of Completion were awarded to the participants.
Through the Linang training, UP Mindanao personnel have been empowered for improved public service by the national university towards nation-building.
