UP Mindanao units completed the scheduled ISO 9001:2015 internal quality audit and management review on August 5 to 8, 2025, with audit results and opportunities for improvement gathered by the designated internal audit teams.
The internal audit and management review were undertaken in preparation for the upcoming external audit scheduled for November 2025.
UP Mindanao earned its first ISO 9001:2015 certification in December 2024, after successfully passing an external audit conducted by TÜV SÜD, an ISO certifying body. The ISO 9001:2015 certification issued by TÜV SÜD is valid for one year, necessitating the current preparations.
The internal audit was organized by the Quality Assurance Office, led by its director, Assoc. Prof. Ritchie May Gamot, with the help of UPMin’s ISO consultant, Mr. Perfecto Cagaanan Jr.
The internal audit teams were composed of trained UPMin staff and officials who were deployed to audit university units for compliance with the Quality Management System.
All UP Mindanao offices and units prepared documents and records relevant to their processes and mobilized the concerned personnel for the audit and the management review over the succeeding days.
The closing session and management review on August 7 and 8, 2025, respectively, dwelt on the audit findings and performance evaluations, which were communicated to the concerned units.
Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao, in the opening session, showed a photo of a huge boulder that was unearthed during the ongoing campus improvement. The site engineers said the only solution would be to break the boulder piece by piece.
“That is what we are doing in the ISO,”she said. “We break down the problematic concerns and issues, we innovate on solutions, so that we can extract them out of our system and replace them with something better,” she said.
“Around the campus today, there are many unsightly excavations, but if you see the plan, this is going to be a beautiful campus,” said Chancellor Murao.
“That is our main purpose, why we are doing ISO. And we are going to do this continually every year until it becomes a part of our lifestyle,” she said.
